Major Program: 4-H Volunteer Programming

Plan of Work: Youth development in and out of the classroom

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Over the past three years Elliott County 4-H has seen a drastic increase in attendance to 4-H camp. In 2017 Elliott County took 20 individuals to camp, followed by 34 in 2018, and this year our county was able to take 43 total individuals. The success of the camping program this year was due largely to the volunteers in our 4-H Council. These individuals set a goal of giving 40 one hundred dollar scholarships to campers and teens that wanted to attend camp, totaling $4,000 in donations. In a poverty stricken county with very little business and industry this was a lofty goal. The volunteers on the 4-H council began with a letter drive to local and regional business asking for donations and support for the 4-H camping program. Through these efforts and visiting local business our volunteers are were able to exceed their goal and raise $4,300. For the 2020 camping year the Elliott County 4-H council has set a goal to raise $5,500 dollars to provide 55 one hundred dollar scholarship to camp participants. One member of the 4-H council said, "The youth of Elliott County are just as deserving as anyone else to have opportunities to grow and develop leadership, teamwork, and personal development skills in and out of the county. I am very glad our council was able to provide 40 individual the opportunity to attend 4-H camp."
