Enhancing Communication skills through public speaking and expressive arts Because the Elliott County 4-H program has always been an integrated part of classroom instruction, the question “What do you want from the 4-H program” was asked of teachers and principals at each elementary school. Each group answered “Communications and public speaking”. Teachers report that with the advent of technology, students don’t communicate as much as they once did so public speaking is even more frightening. However, the teachers, as professionals, understand the need for public speaking skills. Other major issues the teachers mentioned included environment and bullying

Over the past three years Elliott County 4-H has seen a drastic increase in attendance to 4-H camp. In 2017 Elliott County took 20 individuals to camp, followed by 34 in 2018, and this year our county was able to take 43 total individuals. The success of the camping program this year was due largely to the volunteers in our 4-H Council. These individuals set a goal of giving 40 one hundred dollar scholarships to campers and teens that wanted to attend camp, totaling $4,000 in donations. In a pov

In 2018 Elliott County 4-H created a country ham club, the first one in the history of the program. Elliott County is a rural county, with a population of less than 7,000. Older generations in the community wish for youth to be able to participate in programs that teach youth about the heritage of their community and traditional ways that people lived. During the COVID-19 pandemic our 4-H programming has had make significant adjustments to meet the needs of youth in our county. To date we have given out over 150 grab and go bags featuring different activities for youth to do at home along with a healthy recipe and information related to hand washing, stress in youth, and other topics that are relevant to the situation we are living through.
