We are a Small School in a small town in Eastern KY. Where statistics show health levels are lower than in other states. Our school partnered with The Perry County wellness Coalition and The University of KY Nutrition Education Program Assistant Senior in Perry County, KY. Implementing healthy Choices for every body and Farm 2 School program curriculum. A 6 week program was held where 8th grade student learn how to make healthier choices in Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Protein, Dairy foods and Food safety. Student had the opportunity to try new foods and new recipes. Students learn to Eat Smart and Play Hard understanding to be healthy we need both the right nutrition and physical activity.

Surveys were given at the beginning and the end of 6 week program, resulting in

85% of youth showing improvement in directions in following a recipe

85% of youth were more confident using measuring cups and measuring spoons.

76% of youth made healthier food choices more often when eating out.

71% of youth washed their hands more often before eating.

69% of youth are eating vegetables more frequently.

Over all improvements in Diet Quality 100%   Physical Activity 88%   Food Safety 92%  and Food Resource Management 92%.

These results were presented   to Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s 2019 list of America’s Healthiest Schools were are LITTLE SCHOOL in our LITTLE TOWN won a BIG BRONZE Award for making changes that promote healthier eating and physical activity for students and staff.
