PMC Health and Wellness

Fast food and prepackaged foods are easily accessible in our country today; it is not surprising that we live with obesity and high cholesterol in our area of Kentucky.  The convenience of these ‘easy’ foods and lack of knowledge about the preparation of healthy alternatives is one of the biggest obstacles to overcome when it comes to choosing what to feed families in what is a very fast-paced life.

Healthy Choices is a curriculum that the Pike County Supplemental Nutrition Education (SNAP-Ed) assistant has used with the PMC Health and Wellness Center this past year.

One of the participants said, ‘Thank you so much for helping me with know the difference in all the names of sugar.  I didn’t realize there could be so many things to look for when reading a label.’

Ninety five percent of the participants eat more fruit and vegetables and drink less sugary drinks.

Eighty four percent of the participants improved in food safety and sixty-seven percent are planning their meals ahead of time and making shopping lists after checking their cupboards and refrigerators
