The “2016 – Kids Count” ranks Ohio County 91st in child well-being. Similarly, the CDC’s 2015 “Youth Risk Behavior Survey” for Kentucky, highlighted several key areas of concern:
Thus, increasing physical activity and healthy eating habits for youth and adults, are the most important factors for improving health in Ohio County's “Longest Day of Play”, which held its’ 12th annual event in 2019 in Ohio County, is a cooperative effort of the Ohio Co. Schools, Ohio Co. Healthcare Ohio Co. Extension Service, Wal-Mart, Perdue Farms, and the Ohio Co. Early Childhood Council, with the following goals:
1530 youth and adults participated in the 50 activity stations, which were managed by over 100 volunteers. These activities were designed to be low cost or homemade activities which families could create at home, while providing physical fitness for improved health.
