Agricultural Economics Lender Programs

Author: Kenneth Burdine

Planning Unit: Agr Economics

Major Program: Farm Management

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The department of Agricultural Economics continues to conduct successful programming aimed at meeting the needs of Kentucky’s agricultural lenders.  In December 2018 and January 2019, over 150 lenders attended one of these four conferences at either Lexington, Hopkinsville, Mayfield or Henderson.  Topics included the overall Kentucky ag economy, marketing and profitability for both grain and cattle, and an update from the local Kentucky Farm Business Management program.  An addition to the program this year was a roundtable discussion of farm financial challenges.  Feedback from this discussion provided direction for future extension programming an established the need for additional resources for producers struggling with financial challenges.
