Planning Unit: Bourbon County CES
Major Program: Commercial Horticulture
Plan of Work: Management, Production & Marketing of Agriculture Products
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
Local individuals and groups approached both the Bourbon Extension and the Bourbon County Conservation District with the idea that the two organizations host a combined county wide educational event to cover several important emerging educational topics. As a result, representatives from the two organizations met several times to organize a fall ‘Farm Night’ event to meet these educational needs. Major topics included in this larger county event included: emerging hemp production topics, fall Ag trade updates, alternative crop resources, Kentucky Department of Ag resources, and state ag economics updates. Other activities included numerous educational booths, demonstrations, and displays. Over 200 local producers attended the educational activities presented at this event. Post individual interviews indicated that individuals had gained significant knowledge in; local and state hemp industry, farm bill and related program, ag trade bill policies, and Kentucky Department of Ag programs for producers.
Hopefully these two organizations can work together in the future to combine resources in hosting more effective and comprehensive programs that better serve our commercial farm and horticulture producers.
