Planning Unit: Gallatin County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Empowering Community Leaders

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Currently the Gallatin County Extension Homemaker organization is one of the largest civic and volunteer organization in Gallatin County with over 200 members.   Extension Homemakers work to improve the quality of life for their families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service and education.

Gallatin County Extension Homemakers are active and involved with the Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association at the Northern Kentucky Area and State level.  Gallatin County Extension Homemaker membership continues to increase due to mostly word of mouth and the positive impact Homemakers make in our community.  Unfortunately, the membership growth has been mostly mailbox members and not club members. However, the special interest quilt club has grown from 3 members to 17 members in just three short years.

Members of Gallatin County Extension Homemakers give back to our community.  One way is through the Gallatin County Extension Homemaker Scholarship that gives a $1,000 annual scholarship to a local Gallatin County High School graduating senior.  The most successful fundraising event for the Homemaker Scholarship Fund, is the Peony Festival 5K Run/Walk.  The 2019 5K had 78 participants and raised approximately $1,500.

During the 2018 year, Gallatin County Extension Homemakers reported 16,897 volunteer service hours. Independent Sector reports the estimated value of volunteer time as $25.43 per hour; therefore Gallatin County Extension Homemakers contributed $429,690.71 to support our community.
