Empowering Community Leaders (general)
Building the capacity of volunteer leaders within counties is critical for the sustainability of a community infrastructure that supports long term commitment to strengthen families. In Gallatin County there are groups of volunteer leaders within each discipline who share their expertise, and volunteer time with youth and families in their community. Through the efforts of the agents, paraprofessionals, and volunteers local citizens are engaged, educated and empowered to understand family and community issues and take ownership of implementing local solutions.
• Community problems are solved through active engaged local leaders.
• Gallatin County health and economy are strengthened through strong local organizational leadership
• Increase the number of those who practice personal leadership skills in clubs, schools and community outreach.
• Improved skills in communication, problem solving, or group process in addressing organizational issues and needs.

Long-term Outcome:
Indicator: Participants see themselves as less the single leader with all the answers and more as one who involves others, seeks knowledge from others, and shares leadership responsibility with others.

After many changes in the Gallatin County Fair, the County Judge and Fiscal Court in collaboration with the Gallatin County Extension Office, decided to change the name from the Gallatin County Fair to the Gallatin County Summerfest. The format of the fair changes from carnival rides and motor sports to more family friendly activities. The SummerFest was free to everyone- there was no gate admission. Currently the Gallatin County Extension Homemaker organization is one of the largest civic and volunteer organization in Gallatin County with over 200 members. Extension Homemakers work to improve the quality of life for their families and communities through leadership development, volunteer service and education. Gallatin County Cooperative Extension Service, the City of Warsaw, and Gallatin County Tourism collaborated to host the third annual Peony Spring Festival in downtown Warsaw in the Courthouse Square.The Gallatin County Cooperative Extension Service organized and created a fun, free, educational event to local community members.
