SNAP- Ed Improves Senior Nutrition

SNAP Education provides unique learning opportunities to all walks of life.  Our work can be applied to most setting and all social statuses. Recently, Linda, a 69-year-old of Mt. Sterling Kentucky with a 9th grade education, enrolled in the Healthy Choices for Every Body program offered at a local apartment complex.  Upon entering the program Linda stated she never cooked meals at home, rarely compared food prices to save money, and never looked in the pantry or refrigerator before shopping. Being overweight was something she struggled with for most of her life.  Each week Linda came to class eager to learn and making steady changes in her eating habits. Linda began by no longer frying any foods, she used her mini grill to prepare all of her meals. Upon completion of the classes she has lost a total of 20 pounds, now cooks her main meal at home 7 days a week, 100% of the time she compares food prices to save money, and now checks to see what she has on hand before grocery shopping.
