~~Volunteer Administration Academy Success StoryVolunteers, a program council and a county action plan for FCS are a must in a successful Extension program. Rowan County was lacking these items for the new FCS agent to work with. In order to achieve both of these in the first year of work the agent needed guidance and assistance.The University Of Kentucky Volunteer Administration Academy is a 9 month program in which Extension Agents may enroll for either graduate or in-service credit. The mission of the academy is to improve the level of competence of Extension professional in generating, educating, mobilizing and sustaining volunteer programs, to expand volunteer involvement on the county level, and reach unserved audiences through volunteer delivery methods and councils.Six Extension professionals across the state representing 4-H and FCS started the program in September of 2016, the initial activity was to develop a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) profile for our county. The Academy also research the philosophy and theories of Volunteerism models, wrote values – vision – mission statements for volunteers, develop a county action plan for their county, create a recruitment packet, develop an Extension Marketing Strategy project, wrote an publish two journal entries in (JOB) Journal of Extension and finished the class by attending a National Volunteerism Conference in Ashville, North Carolina and utilizing that information back in their county.FCS in Rowan County: Recruitment packets where completed and ten handed out, two have been returned. April, 2017 a FCS council has been established with seven members including the agent, first meeting will be in October to work on By-Laws and elect officers. Fall 2017, the marketing materials will be added to the agents in the academy Facebook pages to view usage and need. The journals will be published in the Fall.In order for the FCS agent in Rowan to afford this in-service and attend the National Conference, she wrote two mini grants to fund the activities totaling over $4,000. This class will have a long term effect on all counties involved.Evaluation of project:100% of the Academy achieved knowledge to use at their county by developing the SWOT Profiles.100% of the Academy develop and or using their program council to a higher level than before.100% of the Academy attended and are apply knowledge and experience from the National Conference in their county.66% of the Academy are using this class for college credit for a future degree.100% of the Academy are using this class for professional credit.100% of the Academy finished the class with the achievement of an A and full credit status.83% (5 / 6) of the class intend to enroll in the Volunteer Advance Academy in 2018.
