The 7th annual Ag Day in the Park is a Farm Bureau organized event that the Trimble County Extension is glad to be a sponsor and participant of. This event allows all the fourth graders (96) in Trimble County to come to the park and learn about agriculture. Area educators set up 13 stations and have 15 minute sessions to speak on the topic of their expertise. Extension has been involved from the start and has changed the lessons every few years. This year Agriculture and Natural resources and 4-H collaborated together to teach the kids about raising cattle and the responsibility of having as a 4-H project. With the help of the ANR Agents daughter and her show heifer, we were able to explain the importance of responsibility and leadership to these young folks. The children (many for the first time) had the opportunity to see and touch a heifer. Coupling this with the words of wisdom and encouragement, kids were taught how important agriculture is to everyone. Children have to see and feel where and how there food gets from the field to the table. Many of the kids were heard to say “This was our favorite station”!
