2016 2017 Mayfield Graves County Senior Center NEP

According to the USDA Economic Research Service “In 2015, 2.9 million household with as senior aged 65+ experienced food insecurity.” to help address this issue, the Graves County Cooperative Extension Service Nutrition Education Program paraprofessional in partnership with the Mayfield-Graves County Senior Center presented monthly “Healthy Choices for Every Body” nutritional classes at the senior center from October, 2016 – September, 2017. At the end of the year, 21 senior citizens completed the requirements to graduate from the program. 3 of the 21 were male participants.

According to the results of the pre and post surveys participants 100 % of Nutrition Education Program senior center participants made an improvement in the nutritional quality of their diet.  51% of Nutrition Education Program senior graduates consumed a diet of higher quality because they planned meals using My Plate, considered healthy choices, and used the "Nutrition Facts" label.
