According to Countyhealthrating.org Graves County's adult obesity rate is 30% and physical in-activity is 27%. To help promoted overall family "Healthy Choices" the Graves County Cooperative Extension Service Nutrition Education Program paraprofessional in partnership with the Mayfield-Graves County Community Education Program, the Mayfield & Graves County Family Resources Centers, and the Mayfield and Graves County Migrant Program offered and presented a series of nutritional educational classes, with group discussion, and food recipe demonstrations to the 2016 Christmas Community Connection participants at the Graves County Cooperative Extension Service office.

The Christmas Community Connection offers parents/guardians an opportunity to attend classes of their choice to earn points to shop for Christmas gifts for their children in the Christmas store. The Nutrition Education Program assistant offered 10 classes of “Healthy Choices for Every Body” classes during the month of October and December of 2016. However, some participants continued with the nutritional education program throughout the program year. A total of 15 participants completed the requirements to graduate from the program.

According to the results of the pre and post surveys participants 80% of Nutrition Education Program families made an improvement in the nutritional quality of their diet. 64% of Nutrition Education Program graduate families consumed a diet of higher quality because they planned meals using My Plate, considered healthy choices, and used the "Nutrition Facts" label. 53% of families began feeding their children breakfast.  57% of families demonstrated an improvement in safe food handling practices and hand washing behavior. 47% of families learned to plan meals ahead of time and use a grocery list to guide food selections. An 80% improvement was shown in food price comparison behavior.
