2016 2017 Graves County Nutrition Education Program Impact

Outcome: Initial Outcome

According to the CDC in Kentucky “35.1% of adults were overweight. 31.6% of adults had obesity.” The Graves County Nutrition Education Program paraprofessional taught 65 number of limited resource families how to serve more nutritious meals, to keep foods safe, and to utilize local food resources effectively.

Overall 91% of Nutrition Education Program families made an improvement in the nutritional quality of their diet. 59% of Nutrition Education Program graduate families consumed a diet of higher quality because they planned meals using My Plate, considered healthy choices, and used the "Nutrition Facts" label. 43% of families demonstrated an improvement in safe food handling practices and hand washing behavior. 49 % of families learned to plan meals ahead of time and use a grocery list to guide food selections. While a 51% improvement was shown in food price comparison behavior.
