According to the Centers for Disease control less than 3 out of 10 high school students get 60 minutes of exercise per day. In conjunction with the Owsley County school system and the Owsley County Extension Service, a 10 lesson program titled “Wellness in Kentucky” provided middle school students an insight on proper physical activity along with nutrition education as well.
Lessons were taught in hopes of improving overall physical activity. These lessons included fun ways of getting students involved in physical activity as well as the health benefits. Students were able to increase their activity by as much as 52% during these lessons. One student even said that they had started walking every day after to school to help improve their overall health.
