Christmas Project and Eating out Less

There is a program in Owen County that helps to provide local families in need. With Christmas gifts for their children. To receive gifts, they are required to attend educational classes and complete 40 hours of volunteer hours. I provided the Nutrition Education classes to fulfill the educational class requirement.

During this program, families were taught about how to better budget food dollars and the benefits of eating at home versus eating out, using the Healthy Choices for Every Body Curriculum.

At the Beginning of the program, 100% of families reported that they cook dinner at home about 1 time a week. At the end of the program 90% of the families reported that they cooked at home 6 or 7 days a week. They learned that it is less expensive for them to cook at home and they have more control of the amount of calories they consume.
