A Nutrition Class was brought to Hillside Apartments residents in an effort to reach low income families who wanted to improve their nutrition lifestyle. Healthy Choices for Everybody curriculum and My Plate materials were used. With monthly classes five participants started their journey to better nutrition. The clients struggled to find inexpensive, tasty recipes that could improve their food choices. Over the nine month period, one hour classes the participants became very involved in the classes by trying the Healthy Choices recipes at home and assisting in classes. A graduate of this class has volunteer to assist in the upcoming year by recruiting and classroom set up.
The post test results showed the each participants succeeded in reaching their goals. They improved their diet quality 100% consuming more green leafy vegetables and fruits. They also increased their physical activity by 75% and decreased sugary drinks by 50%.
