It's Never too Late for Change

The most recent CDC Data report states that the obesity rate for Greenup County is 35% of the population. Greenup County is in the top 10 counties for other health diseases, such as heart disease and 16% of Greenup County adults suffer from diabetes. Research has shown there is a natural link between nutrition, physical activity, and behaviors toward healthy lifestyles. The Greenup Co. Extension Snap- Ed assistant collaborated with the Greenup Co. Senior Center in a 6 month long series to promote healthier life style in the aging adult community

Fifteen seniors participated in the “It’s Never too Late for Change” series.   The Snap-Ed assistant utilized the Healthy Choices for Everybody curriculum as the basis for this program.  The focus was for participants to gain knowledge in areas related to portion control, meal planning, having a balanced diet, and the importance of physical activity in all stages of life.

The participants of the series gained knowledge and skills that included making meaningful changes to enhance their overall well-being. Many participants showed an increase in physical activity, as well as many stated that they had fallen in love with cooking again.
