The Christian Outreach Food Pantry in Henderson County fills about five thousand and sixty food boxes a year to the limited resource families in the community. Christian Outreach Food Pantry wanted to start a garden so they could receive some fresh vegetables for their clients and they could also learn how to grow and take care of a garden. The SNAP-Ed Assistant (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) of the Henderson County Extension Service partnered with Christian Outreach Food Pantry, the FFA from the Henderson County High School, 4-H Agent, Horticulture Agent and Agriculture Agent of the Henderson County Extension Service to help build a community garden for the Christian Outreach Food Pantry. The six garden beds will help provide fresh vegetables to the food pantry in the community and allow the SNAP-Ed Assistant to continue to The Healthy Choices for EveryBody classes and do food demonstrations with the families that come in for food services. The clients will help take care of the garden and get to take some of the fresh vegetables home. The Christian Outreach Food Pantry continues to serves about nine thousand & eight hundred and six families in a year with four hundred and eighty families receiving fresh vegetables from the garden that was started this year.
