Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the loss of strength and stamina attributed to aging is in part caused by reduced physical activity. Inactivity decreases with age and by the age of 75, 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 women are no longer active.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Assistant in Rockcastle County, Kentucky provided a series of 7 lessons, each including physical activities tips at the Wayne Stewart Adult Daycare. At the conclusion of each lesson taught, a focus was implemented on physical activity. The goal was to help participants recognize the importance of incorporating physical activity at least 5 times a week for 30 minutes.
18 participants participated in the lesson series. At the post evaluation, 61% reported they were exercising more often. The center began to incorporate more physical activity into their daily activities and helped to reinforce the importance of being active.
