During the summer months of June, July, August and September 2017 the SNAP Ed Assistant from the Jackson County Cooperative Extension Service promoted Kentucky Proud produce and recipes by offering weekly food sampling using the Kentucky Proud recipes at the various Jackson County Farmer's Markets countywide locations. Providing the food samples, used their WIC, SNAP and Senior Vouchers. These benefits are provided to participants in collaboration with the Department of Children and Family Services and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Sixteen local farmers, whom this is their only livelihood, depend financially on produce sales from the Jackson County Farmers Market. The Food Sampling offered each week by the SNAP-Ed Assistant, demonstrated to the seventy five to one hundred consumers how to prepare nutritious, tasty meals using local grown produce therefore increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables while economically benefiting the community and their families.
