Solar Eclipse Camp
Due to the rareness of the 2017 solar eclipse, Allen County 4-Her’s gained the opportunity to completely
immerse themselves in an one of a kind experience integrating both NASA space science learning and adventurous camping at West Kentucky 4-H Camp. Youth attending this special summer camp received the chance to combine our exciting camp classes like High Ropes with Rocketry, Star Gazing, Planet Splash and more space science fun. Helping our campers to better understand Space and Solar Science, NASA professionals incorporated guided demonstrations and explanations not only during the solar eclipse but also throughout the three day camp making the experience all the more impactful. While our camping program provides life skills, experiential learning, and new opportunities, these Solar Eclipse Camp participants gained these skills and so much more. Both Allen County youth participants left Solar Eclipse Camp with thorough understandings of solar eclipse phases, NASA’s impact on Earth and Space Science, as well as a new excitement for Space Science. Allen County participant Dustin Hayes said, “I’ve always be liked S.E.T stuff (Science, Engineering & Technology) but Solar Eclipse Camp has really got me interested in pursuing a job in that area. Solar Eclipse camp was so much fun and I even learned a lot too!”The Allen County 4-H Program hosted the Veggies, Racecars & Healthy Living – 3, 2, 1 … Lets Go!!! Cl... Read More
