The Franklin Co. FCS program hosted an entrepreneurial brunch, presentation, and panel discussion to provide women with a format to find out what it takes to see their business idea grow from start-up to flourishing. In addition to the brunch, women were able to network with other women, gain educational knowledge from local women and outside of the county. The program included a very timely and inspiring portrayal of Kentucky's own Nancy Green entitled: Being Aunt Jemima, the Pancake Queen by Debra Faulk. Ms. Faulk is part of the Kentucky Chautauqua (Kentucky Humanities) Speakers Bureau. After this presentation, a panel of women shared their role and experiences. Our guests, included: Women's Business Center Community Ventures, Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Cabinet for EEO/Contract Compliance for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Bluegrass Small Business Center, Mental Health Agencies, Social Media Bloggers, etc. A vendor showcase was held and each woman discussed her own small business with attendees. Businesses ranged from makeup, fashion, plumbing and electric supplier, mental health, jewelry, candles and ice cream. We were so amazed and inspired by one of our young panelist, who at 17 has become a success by starting her own ice cream business (Taylor Belle's Ice Cream). All panelists were creative and inspired others. As a result of the program, our own staff assistant was inspired to start her own business. We plan to partner with our local Chamber to offer another opportunity to empower women interested in business.
