Having a local Farmers’ Market is an asset for the entire community. Farmers’ Markets not only provide convenient access to fresh local produce, which promotes good nutrition, they also support local farmers and economy.

In the spring of 2017 the Founder’s Square Feast committee met together to plan the second annual farm to table event. Community members purchased tickets to a meal which was prepared by a local chef using local produce from Farmers’ Market vendors and served at the site of the local farmers’ market. The goal of the Founder’s Square Feast was to expose community members to local produce, introduce them to local farmers, promote community pride and raise money to support Hopkinsville’s Downtown Farmers’ Market. Christian County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences contributed to this effort by serving on the planning committee, sponsoring the event and providing volunteers in the form of Christian County Extension Homemakers.

The Founder’s Square Feast was a great success as ticket sales increased from 125-160 seats and continued to be a sold out event. All in attendance had a wonderful evening enjoying local cuisine and taking in the sights of Hopkinsville’s growing downtown. The event raised $3,502.75 to support the continuation and growth of Hopkinsville’s Downtown Farmers’ Market. The committee is currently working to not only continue but expand this event into an entire weekend festival. The expansion will allow the event to continue to highlight the Farmers’ Market as well as promote other local agribusinesses such as distilleries, breweries and Arts & Crafts vendors.
