After the 2-year absence of a 4-H Agent and Covid the Marion County 4-H Horse Club has slowly been rebuilt in the past several years. A certified volunteer leads the club and each year for the past 3 years the club continues to grow. The Horse Club meets monthly with different educational programs presented ranging from a past 4-H member discussing what classes you need to take to become a veterinarian in college and what classes she took in high school that helped her in college. Another meeting, an Equine Massage therapist demonstrated how to massage a horse. The club has record breaking attendance for the past two years for the Bluegrass 4-H Horse Camp with ten youth attending the 4-day camp and eight parent volunteers attending as well. Youth participants and parents met for four nights at the Extension Office to create a plan and execute it for the Parade of Counties and Stall Decorating which helped to develop cohesiveness and fellowship for the group. 4-H members learned the leg anatomy of a horse by dissecting it, how to build a shelter for a horse and the proper nutrition for a horse at horse camp.
In August of last year, seven 4-H members participated in the Kentucky State Horse Show with it being their time. This year, four members participated in the Kentucky State 4-H Horse Show with one member receiving 1st place in Hunter Under Saddle.
