As part of the Connecting Hearts for Support initiative, the Advocates for Healthy Hearts program offers heart disease survivors opportunities to connect through twice-monthly meetings featuring expert guest speakers on heart health–related topics.
In this context, I delivered a one-hour interactive presentation to a group of 10 support group members. The session covered a range of practical gardening techniques designed to promote healthy eating and physical activity, including:
An introduction to composting and vermicomposting
Strategies for growing fresh produce at home
Basic soil testing methods to improve soil and produce quality
Participants were also provided with seeds sourced from the seed library that I curate, supporting direct implementation of the techniques discussed. By equipping attendees with both knowledge and resources, the session aimed to improve food access and encourage heart-healthy eating habits among this high-risk population.
