Multi-State Herbicide Workshop Hosted by the University of Kentucky and Purdue University

Author: Kenneth Clayton

Planning Unit: Plant and Soil Sciences

Major Program: Turfgrass

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In December of 2024 the University of Kentucky partnered with the Midwestern Regional Turfgrass Foundation at Purdue University to offer a day long herbicide workshop at the Shelby County Extension Office. This was the first time this event had been offered at a Kentucky location and 56 turfgrass professionals attended the meeting. Registration was cut off at this point because of limited space, but we anticipate more would attend with a larger venue. Attendees were able to learn about best management practices to control many difficult weeds in turfgrass while obtaining needed CEUs to maintain their pesticide license. Thirty surveys were filled out at the end of the event and all 30 attendees stated they would share what they learned with peers and others in their workplace. Based upon survey responses, the estimated dollars the attendee’s businesses would net based upon information gained in the seminar was just over $2,000.00 per business.
