Bermudagrass as a weed is widespread in Kentucky. The warmth of our summers and recent mild winters has allowed this weed to continue to spread and persist across the state. While turf type varieties of bermudagrass are used, especially on athletic fields and golf courses, the common bermudagrass remains a difficult to control weed in many lawn and landscape situations. Since the beginning of my work with UK I have received numerous questions from stakeholders and county agents about the best ways to control bermudagrass, but until this year there has not been a concise document to place in their hands to providing direction for control this weed. Along with three county agents (Jason Vaughn, Beth Wilson, and Andy Rideout) I published “Bermudagrass Control for Kentucky Lawns” (AGR-278) to address this need. This document helps county agents to provide a concise three-page publication to stakeholders that sets proper expectations for control of this weed along with practical cultural and chemical control options. This document will help stakeholders to make informed decisions that will prevent unnecessary chemical applications. Since the publication of this document, I have received requests for podcast and tv interviews to take place soon.
