Describe the Issue or Situation
In today's fast-paced world, many individuals struggle to find time for relaxation, self-expression, and mental wellness. Rural communities in particular may have limited access to structured opportunities for stress relief and creativity. Recognizing this need, the Martin County Cooperative Extension sought to offer a unique experience that supports emotional wellness and encourages community connection through artistic expression.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable)
To address the need for improved mental well-being and community engagement, the Martin County Cooperative Extension hosted a “Patriotic Painting Workshop” as part of its Art for Wellbeing initiative. This workshop was designed to provide participants with a relaxing and creative environment, using art as a tool for stress relief. During the session, each participant created a patriotic themed door hanger, promoting both individual artistic expression and seasonal community pride.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience
The workshop welcomed 15 participants from the local community. Attendees ranged in age from young adults to retirees, with a majority being women seeking opportunities for self-care and social interaction. Many participants shared that they were looking for a creative outlet and a break from their daily routines.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact
Participants left the workshop feeling refreshed, inspired, and more connected to their community. Many expressed how much they appreciated the opportunity to slow down, be creative, and enjoy a peaceful environment with others who shared similar interests. The relaxed atmosphere and hands-on activity sparked conversations, smiles, and a sense of accomplishment. Through the program, the Martin County Cooperative Extension successfully promoted mental well-being, encouraged social engagement, and demonstrated the positive effects of creative expression on emotional health.
