Success Story: Growing Community Through Gardening

Livingston County Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) hosted a highly successful Lunch and Learn class centered around edible landscapes. The response from the community was overwhelming, with the class reaching capacity and even generating a waiting list. Due to the popularity and interest, Livingston ANR decided to host the class a second time—with a new and exciting twist. Partnering with Livingston County Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), and Calloway ANR they offered not just one, but two engaging classes along with a delicious and nutritious lunch.

The event kicked off with a repeat of the original edible gardening class, allowing those who missed the first session to participate. Following the hands-on learning, participants enjoyed lunch. The afternoon wrapped up with an additional class focused on sustainable gardening practices. The dual-class format, paired with a shared meal, created an inviting environment for learning and connection. The event impacted 25 families, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing a strong desire to make this a recurring, monthly series. The success of this event reflects the growing interest in home gardening and healthy living across Livingston County.
