Local employer, Nationwide Uniform has partnered with the LaRue County Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Assistant to offer a series of monthly wellness classes for employees. Classes help employees identify areas of their diet that can be improved to maintain good health.
The Healthy Choices Series curriculum is utilized to compare current diet choices in contrast with recommendations from USDA MyPlate. This program introduces participants to new foods and 60% report they are now preparing these foods for their families. 38 Participants have increased consumption of fruits, vegetables and whole grains by 60 percent. One participant reported that over the past year, as a result of healthy choices she now makes, her blood pressure has been lowered and she has been able to discontinue medication.
