Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Educational horticulture day trips with the Washington County Garden Club have proven to be a great success, offering members immersive experiences that combine learning with inspiration. Recent excursions included visits to renowned botanical gardens, specialty nurseries, working greenhouses, and beautifully maintained private gardens across the region. Each destination provided a unique learning opportunity, from discovering rare plant varieties to observing sustainable growing techniques in action. Participants appreciated the behind-the-scenes access and the chance to ask questions directly to growers and garden managers. One member shared, “Seeing these places in person gave me so many new ideas for my own garden. It was not only educational but incredibly motivating.”
Feedback from club members has been overwhelmingly positive, with 95% of participants reporting in post-trip surveys that they learned something new they planned to apply in their own gardens. Additionally, 88% said the trips increased their confidence in trying new plants or design ideas at home. Several members have since reported implementing native plantings, starting greenhouse seed projects, or creating themed garden beds inspired by the tours. Long-term, the club has seen increased member engagement and retention. These day-long experiences continue to foster a culture of curiosity, learning, and community, strengthening horticultural knowledge while deepening the club's commitment to environmental stewardship and lifelong gardening education.
