Planning Unit: Lyon County CES

Major Program: Farm Management, Economics and Policy

Plan of Work: Natural Resources Management

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

To meet the educational needs of today's Producer requires Agents to learn and adapt to new ways to connect to our clientele. Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agents in Lyon, Trigg and Webster counties produce weekly podcasts as part of their Ag Extension  programs.

With a weekly audience base that extends well beyond the state borders, Kentucky Ag Matters has developed a regular, listening audience that receives weekly, research-based information on a variety of different online hosts. This allows everyone to access this information while commuting to work or while in the field. To date, the show has had over 15,500 unique downloads.

KY Ag Matters educates and informs our listeners about all things related to agriculture.  As of February 26, 2024, we have recorded 100 episodes with a variety of topics geared towards meeting the emerging needs of our clientele.  Our guests range from UK Extension Specialists to commodity group leaders, as well as extension agents and law enforcement officers.  Our goal is to offer timely, research-based information to the agriculture community in a consistent and reliable way.  We now have over 600 monthly listeners across the United States and several foreign countries.  KY Ag Matters podcast is a priority program.

Testimonials from listeners include:

1)     "I listen to the show every week for the latest information and trends in Agriculture.”

2)     “The best part of a podcast is I can listen to it on my schedule.”

3)     “You all are wonderful advocates for Kentucky Agriculture.”

Kentucky Ag Matters podcast was selected as the 2023, 2024, and 2025 State KACAA Communications Award winner and as a National WINNER for NACAA for Audio Programs in 2023 and 2024, as well as a National Finalist in 2025.

Stay tuned…and remember, KY Ag Matters.
