Success StoryLogan County 4-H Teen Club Leadership Adventure

Logan County 4-H Teen Club Leadership Adventure

Author: Maci Venable

Planning Unit: Logan County CES

Major Program: Leadership

Plan of Work: Empowering Youth for Success

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Describe the Issue or Situation.

Logan County identified a gap in youth programming specifically geared toward teens. Local youth lacked structured opportunities to build leadership skills, challenge personal limits, and form peer connections outside the classroom. There was a clear need for a program that offered personal growth, encouraged teamwork, and fostered community among young leaders.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

In response, Logan County 4-H organized a Teen Club and planned a Leadership Trip designed to provide teens with real-world challenges that build confidence and teamwork. The trip included ziplining and high ropes courses—activities that pushed teens out of their comfort zones while reinforcing leadership and teamwork. The program was coordinated by Logan County 4-H, Todd County 4-H, and Muhlenberg County 4-H, with support from adult volunteers and outdoor ropes facilitators.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

Fifteen teens from Logan County, grades 7th to 12th, participated in the trip. Many of them were new to 4-H or had limited leadership experience. The group included a mix of returning youth leaders and first-time participants, creating a dynamic environment for peer mentorship and shared growth.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.

For the post trip evaluation, 100% participants reported that the program helped them push through fears and work better in a team setting. 54% shared that they had never been on a ropes course or away from home in a leadership setting before, and that the trip inspired them to get more involved in 4-H or school leadership. As a result of this program, teens in Logan County gained vital life skills, including resilience, decision-making, and cooperative problem-solving, contributing to a stronger youth leadership pipeline for the community. 50% of participants said that they would be attending the Logan County 4-H Teen club meetings to further enhance their leadership skills and to nurture connections made with their peers.
