Success StoryBQCA Training

BQCA Training

Author: Jessica James

Planning Unit: Henderson County CES

Major Program: Beef

Plan of Work: Agricultural Practices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Beef Quality Care Assurance (BQCA) is a training that certifies individuals and ensures that they have had the training to understand the proper care for cattle. Some producers achieve this certification because they must have it to apply for Cost Share funds. This training is put on by Kentucky Beef Network, Cattlemen's Association and Extension.

I am a certified trainer for BQCA, so one of the ag teachers at the high school reached out to me to see if I would be interested in conducting this training for her class. The class had all grade levels. The training consisted of me teaching some of the topics along with some training videos that I played with Extension specialists discussing different topics within BQCA. There were 32 students in the classroom and they achieved a 100% passing rate. I look forward to continuing to work with the high school to get students BQCA certified.

The impact of this program is that those students now have a better overall understanding of the livestock industry and what it looks like, along with the importance of BQCA. Now that they have an industry certification, they are more prepared to enter the workforce.
