Winter Grain Conference-River County

Author: Chuck Flowers

Planning Unit: Carlisle County CES

Major Program: Grains

Plan of Work: Crop and Livestock Production, Gardening and Horticulture, and Local Food Systems

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

On average, 76% of all land in the Four River Counties is dedicated to crop production. Three of the four counties—Ballard, Carlisle, and Fulton—generate over $33 million annually in crop sales, with Carlisle County alone exceeding $74 million. Across all four counties, it's essential for farm operators to stay informed about input costs, annual market trends, and emerging crop issues. This year’s program was designed to address those needs by providing timely and relevant crop information. The agenda included Corn Disease Updates from Kiersten Wise (University of Kentucky), Grain Marketing insights from Grant Gardner,(UKY) Weed Management Updates by Larry Steckel (University of Tennessee), and a session on Beaver Mitigation led by Micah Seavers. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 93% of attendees stating the information was highly relevant to their needs, and 93% noting it was critical to the agricultural industry.
