Success StoryKentucky Homeowners

Kentucky Homeowners

Author: Sarah Imbus

Planning Unit: Campbell County CES

Major Program: Horticulture, Consumer and Home

Plan of Work: Home Horticulture - - Master Gardener Volunteers and the Lakeside Commons Educational Gardens

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Kentucky homeowners continue to garden or landscape at home for a variety of reasons such as: environmental benefits, improve property value, connecting with nature, social benefits, and economic impact.

Now that Spring has sprung many NKY residents continue to seek resources and information about gardening. The Campbell County Horticulture team offers over a dozen classes focusing on home horticulture, which include:

Winter Pruning, Getting Your Lawn Ready, Drought Tolerant Landscaping, Houseplant Propagation, Houseplant Selection And Care, Flowers For The Cutting Garden, A Beginners Guide To Garden Ponds, Growing Hydrangeas, Winterizing Your Garden, and Growing Herbs (scheduled for July 2025).

On average, 22 participants attended these classes. 100% of the participants who completed a post survey, shared that they learned new skills that will benefit them and they will be able to make better decisions when related to their home gardening needs. In addition, participants shared they will continue to reach out to Extension for their horticulture needs and 95% shared that with the knowledge and resources learned, they are able to save money for them and their families.

As a result, Campbell County Horticulture team will continue to provide home horticulture programs and classes to Northern Kentucky residents.
