Event Overview: The 4-H Future Ready: 6th Grade Workforce Prep Event, held at North Central 4-H Camp, brought together 165 enthusiastic students and over 25 dedicated community partners. This event was designed to equip young minds with essential skills for their future careers through a series of engaging and hands-on activities.
Activities and Engagement: Youth participants were immersed in a variety of activities that fostered both personal and professional growth. The 4-H Camp Staff led a dynamic teambuilding session on the low ropes course, where students learned the importance of collaboration and trust. Local high school students, who are part of the education pathway at Fleming County High School (FCHS), played a pivotal role by leading workshops on communication, enthusiasm, and attitude, imparting valuable soft skills to their younger peers.
Career Fair and Skill Development: A highlight of the event was the age-appropriate career fair, where local community partners showcased various career paths and the educational requirements needed for those roles. Businesses such as Ag Pro, Hinton Mills, Fleming County Public Library, Peoples Bank, Community Trust Bank, Glass with Sass, Fleming County Chamber Of Commerce, and Fleming County Sheriff Department participated, providing students with a realistic glimpse into the workforce and the skills necessary to succeed. Prior to the event, students had the opportunity to create their own resumes, which they then reviewed with community partners, receiving constructive feedback and guidance.
Impact and Outcomes: The 4-H Future Ready event had a profound impact on the participating youth. Students left with a better understanding of the workforce and the steps needed to achieve their career goals. The hands-on activities and direct interactions with community partners helped build confidence and provided practical insights into various professions. The event also strengthened the bond between the community and the youth, fostering a supportive environment for future growth.
