Planning Unit: KSU Administration
Major Program: Pollinators
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
Describe the Issue or Situation. Graduate Students who are required by a class to perform a field-based project that determines the suitability of an area for installing pollinator habitat but do not have a background or knowledge of pollinators or pollinator habitats.
Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable). I created and presented a PowerPoint on native pollinators, specifically native bee diversity, which also discussed plants each bee group may visit, how to sample for bees, ho to process bee samples, and I am providing mentoring for the field data collection component of their project.
Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience. The audience was approximately 10 Environmental Studies Graduate Students at KYSU.
Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach. Now, these students not only have a better understanding of bee diversity, the need for habitat, and the components of pollinator habitat, but are now capable of assessing the suitability of an area to be converted into pollinator habitat, can identify if something is a native bee, but can also complete their project for their class.
