Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Over the past several years, there has been an increase in people moving to Robertson County from different parts of the state and also different parts of the county. Many of these new community members reach out to us at the Extension Office as a starting point for the plans they have with their new homes and land.
One of those new community members has been very eager since they moved here a few years ago. First he wanted to get his three children involved with showing livestock, that is how I first got to know Mr. Case. I talked with him and his children about showing livestock and what all it would entail. From that conversation, they decided that showing was not for them, but they were willing to give the country ham project a go. His two daughters completed the country ham project and were amazed at what all they learned along the way.
This relationship grew when his son became involved with Cloverbuds. He attended both of our Cloverbud day camps in July 2025. Since then, he has attended every Cloverbud meeting and even participated in the novice show at the Robertson County Livestock Show in September 2025.
I have had many conversations with Mr. Case as well as his wife, who both have many ideas, hopes, and dreams for their farm here in the county. We have had conversations about goat and chicken production. I had suggested he follow the Kentucky Sheep and Goat Association, who often have workshops and publish monthly blogs. He in fact did do that and attended a workshop where he networked with Kelly Yates and other leaders in the sheep and goat industry.
He and his wife recently attended the Homesteading Series that the Buffalo Trace ANR/Hort agents hosted. They have committed to becoming Master Gardeners in Mason County (Robertson does not have a program) and even becoming volunteers here in Robertson County. They have been added to my ANR council to give their insight on being new and beginner farmers.
He has also been invited to the Farm Launch program through UK. This is a huge opportunity for him and he is so excited to begin the process. Only 30 people that applied were selected and he was one of 15 that was selected for the livestock track.
There is a very bright future for Mr. Case and his family when it comes to Extension programming and leadership in Robertson County.
