We have to keep doing better

While doing a health fair at one of the Hispanic-Latino coalition events the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service was approached by one the organizers of that event who was seeking help with a Group of a recently arrived immigrants from different Spanish speaking countries that needed help with Nutrition education topics. The Nutrition Education Program Assistant explained the insights and details Of the program and they seemed to be really interested in the classes and set up a program at the Church. The group mainly consisted of women with little kids that were having problems with obesity And some of them have developed high blood pressure. The classes started with the My Plate program After realizing that they were having problems trying to add green leafy vegetables to their daily food Intake. After a period of time discussing several nutrition topics and different educational materials, they became interested in learning. They started to increase the consumption of a lot of green leafy vegetables to their daily diet. Some of them have brought to the group different exotic vegetables only available at the local Hispanic markets. They are very interested in continuing with the classes and the have realized that to keep doing better every day is the only way to overcome the challenges that the new country and culture brings to them everyday .
