At an open house in one of the Jefferson County schools, a group of women passing with their kids by the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service booth were amazed by the amount of sugar that is consumed in their daily diet. After they realized the type of nutrition education classes that the

Nutrition Education Program Assistant Brings to the community, they decided to join one of the several Hispanic-Latino groups. during the classes they learned the importance of portion control, the right choice that they take when increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables, the steps that should be followed in order to keep a balanced calorie intake and how we can substitute a lot of sugar enhanced drinks with more healthy choices .after several classes, some of the participants started to drink more water instead of the soft drinks and they increased the consumption of natural fruit juices with less sugar. They are trying to bring those new, little changes to their homes with their kids and they feel that they’re learning something useful to their families, always thinking that there are other choices.
