Exploring Careers with AgDiscovery at Kentucky State University is the topic of what one student had to say about this unique camp. This past summer (2024) one of the past participants came to the camp because of her love for the veterinary science field and that it was being held in the state of Kentucky. Ms. Julissa along with 17 other participants were able to attend one of the primier KYSU summer camps and stay on campus for two weeks learning about all things that deal with the animal sciences. This camp gives the participants and wonderful experience that allows them to see and get a hands-on experience before they are even in the field. Ms. Julissa stated, that "All my life, I had known that I wanted to pursue a career in the veterinary field, and I thought that this program could help me narrow down to what exactly I wanted to do. This program was focused on equine medicine, and I was curious to see if I would want to be a large animal veterinarian." This program was able to do just that, give her the experience of a lifetime! Out of all the 18 participants over 80% of the participants said that after AgDiscovery they felt good and were aware of career opportunities in animal sciences, more than 75% of the participants felt familiar with the concepts of veterinary medicine, and 90% of the participants would love to come back to KYSU to do another year of the camp. This impact show how successful a program can be if it's geared towards what the students want. Another special thing to note is that this impact doesn't just stop here in the United States. One of the participants came from the Virgin Islands, and was blown away on what she learned about from the camp. This students enjoyed herself show much that she wrote and drew all the KYSU staff personal letters on her experience and what it has done for her in her life. The student felt safe under the care of the KYSU staff and learned so much. She stated, "This program at KYSU, is really special and thanks for an amazing summer! Programs like this go a long way and the success of these type of events is priceless!
