Plan of Work: Develop Individual Youth and Adults for Leadership Volunteer Roles
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Metcalfe County 4-H Certified Shooting Sports Volunteers, 4-H Agent partnered with the Metcalfe County Schools Community Education and KY Fish and Wildlife to offer a “Firearm Safety and Range” program during two weekends in the spring and fall. This program offered a hands-on learning experience providing an opportunity to learn hunter safety information and practice skills on the range. Everyone completing this program would receive their “Kentucky Hunters Safety Orange Card.
There was a diverse group that attended and successful received their “Orange Card”.
- 69% from low-income households
- 2 black, 3 Hispanic
- 3 English second language students
- 87 males 16 females
- 6 special needs
- 1 senior citizen
- Individuals from nine surrounding counties
A parent said “This was a great opportunity for my daughter to get her orange card where she can hunt for our family some food.” 97% of the participants said they gained information and learned how to be safe. 99% said they learned how to focus on the target.
