Major Program: Agriculture

Plan of Work: Youth Development Programming

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Healthy living is one of three 4-H mission mandates and encompasses: physical activity, personal safety, mental health, addiction prevention, and diversity and inclusion.

Every 4th grader in Marion County learned about various aspects of safety at the Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day in October of 2024. The program is a partnership between 4-H, the Extension Office and the school Family Resource Centers and reached 284 youth. An additional 40 teen youth participated as group leaders and station presenters.   Over 40 volunteers assisted with the Ag. Safety Day by serving as group leaders, assisting with set up and take down and serving as station presenters.

Additional community partners include Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Loretto Motherhouse, Marion County High School HOSA and FFA members, Certified Shooting Sports Coaches, Inter-County Energy, Nutrien, Ag. Credit, NRCS Office, Marion County EMS, and the Marion County Cattlemen's Association.

Students rotated around to 11 stations that lasted 15 minutes each to learn about various aspects of safety.   Safety skill areas taught were electrical, farm equipment, animal, bee, ATV, first aid, fire arm, water, food safety and hand washing, mental health, EMS & grain bins.

Verbal/Written surveys indicated that    % of children learned at least one safety practice to use at their own farm or home.  This will be added later
