Describe the Issue or Situation.

Camping has become more popular over the last few years and people are asking for meal ideas that are good to cook over a campfire.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

The agents at Garrard County Extension office combined efforts to present a program on campfire cooking. The program was advertised through multiple media sites and newsletters. The Family and Consumer Science(FCS) agent, the Ag and Natural Resource(ANR) agent and the 4-H agent divided duties to present a multifaceted program. The 4-H agent started the evening with instructions on fire starting using only a cottonball and a firestick. The ANR agent did a cooking demonstration using a recipe on Campfire Sloppy Joe's from the University of Kentucky. The FCS agent talked about food safety while camping and helped the attendees prepare veggies on a stick to cook over the campfire we had burning.  All attendees then enjoyed a delicious meal that was all prepared over a campfire.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

There were 10 participants that were eager to cook a meal over a campfire. The participants ranged in age from high school to over 65.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact.

All participants reported they gained knowledge in starting a fire and indicated they felt confident they could start a campfire.

Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.
