Kentucky has high rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, not to mention food insecurity and access faced by many communities. Education related to healthy foods, food safety, and where to access healthy foods can help individuals make healtheir choices and understand the importance of nutrtion in health.
Cooking Through the Calendar is a program through the Nutrition Education Program that uses NEP Recipe Calendars to teach heathy eating, cooking skills, and food safety for the adults in Jackson County.
Jackson County has had a Cooking Through the Calendar program once a month with consistent attendance by fifteen participants. Those participants were introduced to new foods, or new ways to prepare foods, and have had continued education on nutrition and healthy eating. 100% of participants said they would eat with healthier choices in mind, 100% reported increased knowledge about healthy choices, MyPlate, nutrition labels, and where to access healthy foods in their communities.
