Cumberland County is a rural county in south central Kentucky with the Cumberland River flowing through and Dale Hollow Lake on the southern border. Students in the county have a lot of access to water whether it be a river, lake, creek, or pond. In 2023, the ANR agent applied to the Progressive Agriculture Foundation to host a safety day in 2024 and it was awarded. The event was held on October 3, 2024 at the Burkesville Baptist Church for fourth and fifth grade students. Students were able to visit booths about water safety (Army Corp of Engineers), first-aid safety (EMS), 9-1-1 and family preparedness plan (EM), sun safety (Cumberland County Community Education), food safety (Cumberland County Extension), snake ID (Dale Hollow State Park), beekeeping (Cumberland County Beekeepers), and reaction time (Cumberland County Extension). In total, 131 students were educated on the afore-mentioned topics.
