Major Program: Cook Together, Eat Together
Plan of Work: Healthy life style choices make for a happy, healthy life
Outcome: Initial Outcome
The problem - Families do not typically cook together nor do they eat together. High the escalating costs of dining out, more families are realizing how important it is to buy healthy foods, cook together as a family and be together to eat.
The educational program response - Everyone appeared to be excited to not only learn a new extremely simple recipe, but see it made right in front of them. All the materials were cleaned/sliced/ready to prepare dish and participants were able to watch the recipe be prepared. This is the best approach to take. A power point isn't close enough to catch everything.
The participants/target audience - Two classes were offered that consisted of 41 people (7 male, 34 female, 1 African/American, 1 other and 4 youth.....a great combination to be participants.
Other partners (if applicable) - MCTC provided the space/signs/desks to hold the class.....but sure need to check their electrical capabilities to ensure 2 or more appliances can carry the load of what little equipment we bring to cook as instructors.
Program impact or participant response.- Initial outcome. Participants were a little surprised to see what/how we were creating the dish, Fun With Veggies. We actually cooked an egg mixture inside a pepper ring. As a whole, the group said they had never even heard of such a recipe.
